This is such a beautifully written book, I don’t even know what to say. Ove and Parvenah and Jimmy and Adrian and ALL of them pulled at my heartstrings throughout this entire thing. The last couple chapters perfectly wrapped it up and the symbolism/underlying message is so incredible. Really, really recommend. An immaculate tale of humanity, family, grief, and what it really means to love. ❤️

One of my all time favourite books, that never ceases to make me cry. Beautiful and hopeful and just downright lovely.

It's the exact story you would expect for a story about a grumpy old man who just lost his wife. Nothing that surprising happens and I could pretty much predict what would happen the entire book.

That being said, I was completely riveted the entire time. I bawled my eyes out at the end, I couldn't wait to see what happened to Ove next and I just wanted him to be happy. I found it beautiful and deep and incredibly sensitive. Every character was super likeable and I was rooting for all of them. I'm so glad I read this and I loved it.

I really wanted to enjoy this, but apparently I am too cynical and world weary for it to read as anything more than a Ron Swanson treatise, or a libertarian wet dream.

I wish I could just focus on the admittedly loveable characters and the small neighbourhood story being told here, but I can't help but extrapolate outwards - it's who I am. So it's great that Ron Ove was there to help
a gay teenager and a battered wife
, but as not all neighbourhoods have an Ove, maybe some "white shirts" are needed to help other people in those same situations? Maybe not all bureaucracy is inherently bad?

I also think the translation was a bit lacking, which didn't help.

For found family and healthy masculinity go and read Still Life by Sarah Winman instead.

I don't even know what to say. At first it was but hard to read. It took me 2 weeks to finish it. But I also laughed, and I cried, and it's a very heartwarming and heartbreaking (at the same time) story after all.

Minst sagt en emotionell berg-och-dal bana som tog kål på mig och fick mig att grina och garva i samma stycke.
Fantastisk bok.
