I loved Brooklyn and didn’t think it needed a sequel, but here we are - the writing was great (as expected) and although the first part was slow, the buildup happened quickly and the ending was surprising.

Eilis is such a great character in both Brooklyn and Long Island. And although I loved him in Brooklyn, I was sad to see how Tony changed in this book.

Such a good sequel to Brooklyn! I accidentally started this before reading Brooklyn and was wholly confused, so don’t do that, but with the context of the previous book this broke my heart! Hoping there will be a part 3!

Toibin is either playing with the reader with the end of this novel, or is setting it up for a third book.  So much was left unresolved.
