I love the writing style used both in this book and “Brooklyn,” but the I was disappointed by story in this book.  People whose characters I initially admired and trusted in the first book turned out to have flaws and questionable judgement in the second book. But they wouldn’t be human if they didn’t. So, for me it was well written morality tale.

Listened to the audiobook nicely narrated by Jessie Buckley.

A literary soap opera?? Good writing but quite a dreary read. Stil a bit of a page turner nonetheless, with a great narrator. Very similar to the first novel 'Brooklyn' but without the levity of youthfulness or as many playful supporting characters.

A worthy follow-up to Toibin's Brooklyn, written with the same lucidity, grace, and dispassionate interest in human behavior.
