A worthy sequel to Brooklyn -- complex characters full of subtlety and secrets, kept me turning the pages with pleasure.

I did not enjoy this book. The characters are frustrating and so I likeable. There are also a lot of side characters that could've helped contribute to the small town vibe but just got confusing, trying to remember who was who pulled you out of the story a bit. The mention of the time period here and there was also jarring, it felt pretty contemporary and then there would be a line that reminded you this was supposed to be decades ago. I didn't get a sense of the setting or atmosphere at all.

Overall, I didn't like the writing style either. There were some really long sentences and the dialogue sounded so unnatural.

All that being said, I did finish the book so it wasn't terrible. I was curious about how it would end for the characters and was disappointed by that as well.
I'm all for open endings but this just fell flat. I didn't really like any of the characters so I was just reading for the drama and then nothing happened.

It took me a while to get into this book. Halfway through, it was getting interesting. Lots of secrets and unspoken words between almost everyone. The plot and storyline felt a bit all over the place. I didn't feel for any of the characters. Then, to finish with an ending like THAT?!?
