good book

I believe I did not quite understand the book.

While it's only a fairly short story I still found plenty to enjoy about this book. The usual Dostoyevsky themes of proper conduct, wounded pride and social order are all there and he manages to build an uncomfortable and funny set up and lets the characters direct the story.

The protagonist is sneaky, self-absorbed and generally not very likable but I still found myself hoping he'd come out on top. In fact most of the characters in the story are pretty unpleasant in some way or another but it's fun to read how their competing priorities clash against each other.
