All the reviews I read are mostly exasperated and unsatisfied.
Well not me.
Heads up people, you don't get happy endings, in real life.
I found this book to be exquisite (well, that goes for all of Aciman's work) , and above all, realistic.
Surely that's something to fall in love with.

The writing is R-rated John Green and the plot feels like fanfic for the majority of the book

Rough and uninteresting start from Elio's father's POV but once we got some chapters dedicated to others lives and perspectives I felt much more interested in the narrative. It was all rather more cerebral than I remember CMBYN being but that's not necessarily a complaint. Still, this narrative felt a bit more fluid which had its pros and cons. The ending I thought was really sweet and I felt that this book had a rather nice organic feel to its characters despite their occasionally overly "galaxy brain" monologues. Fun book but not as memorable as CMBYN. I feel like some characters were just stepping stones to the conclusion and the first chapter felt rather unnecessary imo.

Welp, I tried...
I don't even understand what happened between the first and second book. I could have forgiven the plotline about the father if it wasn't 100 pages of a 260 page book!
I won't deny that the writing is well done, but having the read schlog through this seemingly unimportant story just to get to Elio and Oliver, no ma'am.
Sorry to this man...
