From The Martian to Artemis, Andy Weir never ceases to amaze. This book is much more a heist adventure about colonization and economics compared to the man vs nature conflicts of The Martian but damn I loved Jazz as a lead. Everyone around her was fun and bright and made for great contrast to an asshole.

Some of the action sequences didn’t quite land for me, but Weir is better at the technical than the fighting, which is why I’m so drawn to his books to begin with.

Also, the romance didn’t land for me. At all. Hard pass. Luckily, it’s not a big factor of the book, so I won’t knock it too hard.

This got me excited for Project Hail Mary all over again. It’s been on my shelf untouched for about a year, but it’s now bumped up on my TBR.

I love how Andy weir does science and drama within science. Interesting plot that kept me on my toes. The main character annoyed me at times though by being so intelligent yet stupid at the same time.

Reread this for 372 pages and it was worse than I remembered. Entertaining in the way that a bad movie is entertaining. Jazz is insufferable as a protagonist, I wanted her to perish at multiple points in the novel. The author spent all this time researching the science behind the novel but then completely fudges the stakes at the climax of the story in a way that felt very cheap. I had some laughs at least. Chekhov’s reusable condom never paid off!

I found the book enjoyable enough, but I did not find any of the characters very likable or interesting. The plot was the main driver and the action was the most intriguing piece of this book. I did not think the book had much to say, it was just a generally fun ride. The humor in it felt somewhat forced and I found the main character a bit annoying at times. The character changed very abruptly at the end of the novel, but I did not see the throughlines that led to the change, it was a but jarring.

I don't think I would recommend this book, but if you are looking for one that tells an action story in space and don't want to be challenged much I think this one does the job.
