funny and an excellent setting for a space-western, but I could've done with less focus on Jazz's sex life and more developed characters.

I found Jazz to be one of the most unlikeable narrators I've ever read, which makes this one of the worst reading experiences I have had. The ending plot gets a bit too convoluted and drawn out for a long final act action scene that I just turn my mind off to skim through as fast as possible. The growth of the character and a romance at the end of the book feel rushed and forced, I personally don't feel she really grew or learned from her experience and many many lucky breaks.

A bit male-gazey for me but overall a good sci-fi. Weir’s weakest but that’s not saying too much cause I love his books!!! Is it possible to OVER research? If so, Weir does it

Reread this for 372 pages and it was worse than I remembered. Entertaining in the way that a bad movie is entertaining. Jazz is insufferable as a protagonist, I wanted her to perish at multiple points in the novel. The author spent all this time researching the science behind the novel but then completely fudges the stakes at the climax of the story in a way that felt very cheap. I had some laughs at least. Chekhov’s reusable condom never paid off!

I found the book enjoyable enough, but I did not find any of the characters very likable or interesting. The plot was the main driver and the action was the most intriguing piece of this book. I did not think the book had much to say, it was just a generally fun ride. The humor in it felt somewhat forced and I found the main character a bit annoying at times. The character changed very abruptly at the end of the novel, but I did not see the throughlines that led to the change, it was a but jarring.

I don't think I would recommend this book, but if you are looking for one that tells an action story in space and don't want to be challenged much I think this one does the job.
