Chloe King is turning 16 and wants to spend the day with her two best friends at the tallest building in San Francisco, rather than in school. But when Chloe falls from the building and lives to tell about it, well, things get really strange. Suddenly Chloe can run faster, senses are heightened, and inhibitions are let down, and strangers are trying to kill her.
The new ABC Family series is what prompted me to download a sample for my kindle. After reading it my curiosity was piqued so I downloaded all three books.
The lead up to Chloe’s fall read fast, but the time following the fall moved very slowly. We never really do find out who or what Chloe is. We know there is some group after her that wants her dead and that there is someone else out in her town who is like her in terms of the changes she went through post-fall…but I have to say that I was I was let down because we didn’t really find out all the answers. I’m assuming they are in the next book, “Stolen”… It reminded me of when the Soap Operas would leave some huge cliffhanger on Fridays and then didn’t really get around to resolving it until Wednesday or Thursday of the following week…and sometimes, it became another cliffhanger that Friday…I hated that!
I think that is why I didn’t immediately dive into “Stolen” after finishing “Fallen”. I probably won’t check out the TV Show either…”Hollywood License” and the changes they make to the story will probably irritate me, not to mention the possible cliffhangers…LOL!
Overall, the story was OK…I will read the other 2 books to see where the story goes, but they aren’t at the top of my “to read” list. I will get around to them eventually.

I'm deciding on a four for lots of reasons.
First of all, I'm reading this as a bind up but I wanted to separate the books in case I didn't feel like reading the second one right away (which is the case) so good choice, Past Rachel.
Anyway.
This book was really good. I'm a huge fan of oldish bind-ups that publishers re-bind and market as new again (you guys know I'm a huge Christopher Pike and Elizabeth Chandler fan). I just find they have a certain feel to them, like I don't know, they're different. So I liked this because of that, and also because this was an awesome concept. I generally don't like books about werewolves much at all (could be residual trauma from the eternal Edward-Jacob debate of 2007). So a book about a cat-girl is right up my alley! This is really short, and the plot is one of those books where we don't have even half of the story behind what's happening yet, which is perfect for this book.
The reason I'm taking a star off is because of these characters. UGH. Chloe is... someone I would like to slap. Repeatedly. And maybe its because this girl is like 15 (the book starts the day before her 16th birthday but lets be real here) and every little life event is really her world imploding. I mean there are just things that she does that really bothered me. She acts really immature and then starts throwing herself at men (which isn't that mature either) but my point is that the author chooses to make this girl act like a whiny 15 year old on one chapter, and like a scandalous vixen making out in alleys with men (MEN) who she meets in BARS. I think if I was younger and having the option to do things like that was years away (not that I go to bars and kiss men I don't know NOW but I COULD if I wanted) then I could relate to her more. AND if I was 15 and my world was equally turmoil filled I might like her better. Also her love interests in this are macho douche-canoes that make me want to pull my hair out.
So BASICALLY we have all that happening, and oh, she's also a cat and people are trying to kill her, which is pretty cool (for me, not for her).
But read this if you'd like! I mean, its fun and short and really not that hard to get through! If you're younger you may like it more, but either way I enjoyed it.

This was an extremely fast read. Think, Heroes meets Buffy? A few continuity errors and characterizations outside of Brian and Chloe aren’t currently matching up, but definitely worth the fun.

This book had way too much high school drama for my liking! I am actually a fan of Young Adult books even though i am 20, but this one was a little too YOUNG for me. I did end up finishing the book and am going to start reading the next one just because of how much I enjoy the last ten or so pages. I was really surprised that the book actually started to get interested right at the very end.

When Chole turned 16 and gained her "cat" powers it caused her entire life to turn into complete and utter caos. I think that it would be really cool to have these powers, however the plot of the story is the extact same as just about every other love-triangle story out there, so it gets a bit boring.
However I did think it was fairly well written. And I watched the series when it was on tv, so my opinion is a little biased with this book.

So unlike most people who had read this book I never watched the television show so I had no bias going into it. I actually picked this book up on vacation for $3 and for that price I couldn't pass it up seeing as it was cheap AND sounded interesting. Well I was right about it being interesting, I really enjoyed this book.

This book is fast paced and there are a couple twists that I never saw coming. It was extremely hard for me to put this book down seeing how I wanted to know what happened next. The plot is what really drew me in; a girl falling off a tower and dying but waking up and walking away like nothing ever happened but only to find out she's changing into something else by growing claws. Oh and somebody is trying to kill her.

I enjoyed some of the characters like Brian. He was so sensitive and he listened as Chloe complained about everything. Oh and he wore a hat that he knitted himself which had kitty cat ears on it, how awesome is that? Chloe was alright, she got on my nerves for a little while with her complaining about how her friends are dating and not paying attention to her and how Brian wouldn't kiss her etc. After he whiny period though she evolved into a likeable character, one who is kick butt and knows how to defend herself.

The only issue I had with this novel is that there were alot of references to sex and cursing but the actual writing style seemed more appropriate for a younger audience and not older teens.

Overall, this book was a light enjoyable read and I highly recommend it for people who are fans of the supernatural that like tons of action and some romance. I will definitely be checking out the next two books in the series.

The Fallen (TNLOCK)
Liz Braswell
254 pages
FC: Alyec

Unfortunately, this was not as ground breaking as I initially thought it was going to be. Of course, there are three books and I have time to find out if the whole series is baloney, but I don’t REALLY have high hopes.

The one thing I HATED in the book, like really disliked, was the age gap in all of her romance. It was so Weird to read and just unnecessary. Of course all of the real plot twists came 200 pages in and that was cool, but the scenes and plot lines prior to the plot twists weren’t interesting enough for me to be SO PULLED AND SHOCKED by the twists…

Also why is a newly 16 year old, who was never allowed to date and has never dated before, dating a boy from her school AND A GRADUATED 18 year old? Sadly, The Fallen’s downfall was not the supernatural abilities or world building, it was Chloe’s romantic relationships. I’m not a prude by any means, but this girl was really getting frisky at 15-16. And if Braswell only made her raunchy and filled with lust because it “displays cat-like attitude.” Actually shut up. I hate that. And it’s not true!

Like I said, I’m not a prude and I know this is YA but, why Braswell is pushing the cheating narrative and completely saying it’s normal to be filled with desire for a 22 year old at 15. AND ACTUALLY ACT ON THAT! Is beyond me…

Like. If we’re showing younger girls how to be confident in their bodies and safe, THAT AINT THE WAY SISTER!!! Just strange.

Unfortunate. The characters were pretty solid but the way they thought was weird and the arguments and real “personal relationships” didn’t really feel real to me
:( sorry Braswell!

Ah! refreshing. Just as lovely as it was in highschool the first three times I read it.

revisiting a book like this is great. I know whats going to happen, but have forgotten JUST enough, that it is still wonderful.

AND the netflix series for this? BOMBS. Jerks left out half the story in just the pilot episode -.-
