You never forget your first Ballard. It's like seeing society through the lens of a dispassionate primate observer, some alien anthropologist, who sees the links we could never see... too close.

This is a bizarre mix-up of a book. The setting and premise of the story remind me of an Agatha Christie, where our protagonist goes to solve a mystery in sunny climes, but unlike in those stories - there are no compelling characters to meet along the way, no real revelations of what happened & why and no progression of a plot to a conclusion. Instead we just wander into a smutty and seedy world and then sort of wander out again... Not for me...
