Gibson has a goodwriting style but this book was unfortunately boring and brimming with clichés. It felt very much like a fanfiction. A dowry of blood is miles better than this

So the writing is lovely - best part of the book.
The relationships are not healthy - taboo with power dynamics in play and predatory women. Takes some notes from Carmilla but not in a play-by-play way.
The overall story wasn’t for me but I still enjoyed the read.

I am so here for the dark academia vibes of this book. It was a perfect addition to the vampire story hidden in plain sight. If you didn’t know going in, you probably would not have picked up on that little detail right away. However, being a lover of vampires since I was younger, I knew from the names alone how this was going to turn out. While slow at parts, this book was still everything I was expecting and then some! Yes, I did immediately buy A Dowry of Blood after finishing this book!
