Karin!!!! KARIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's well established by now that this is probably my favorite book series, but The Silent Wife is exceptionally brilliant. Besides the fact that the case at the heart of the book is brutal, terrifying, and beyond all disgusting, the reveal at the end actually made me whisper a soft "nooooo" to myself. I guess I just want to see the best in people!
I haven't read the Grant County series because, this far into reading the Will Trent series, it's pretty daunting to think about going back in time and retreading the ground I know now. I actually really ended up enjoying the crossover here despite this, and despite how ugly I find Jeffrey Tolliver to be (ladies, I get it - nobody knows your relationship like you do. Period. But please do not REmarry a man who cheated on you with 6+ women. I don't CARE if he changed!!!!!).
Also, as a child I was super into VH1 reality dating shows. I still do a biannual rewatch of at least Rock of Love. Come for Will Trent, stay for the Mo'Nique Charm School reference.

You know why Hitchcock movies are excellent? Is because of the suspense and the extremely tense atmosphere he is creating without needing to show a single drop of blood. Your heart literally is pumping out of your chest, you can barely breath, but almost nothing happen. But the suspense, the thrill is palpable.
This book chose the other way. And this is why I deducted a star. The book contains scenes of extreme violence and brutality. I find no pleasure and it adds nothing to the story ( as far as I am concerned) if a crime is done in a very, very brutal way. It's actually has the opposite effect for me. And should I have know that is the case, I would not have read this book.
Another star was lost because the book is far too long and many things are repeated for no good reason.
And another star was lost because the story is not even believable. The killer had to be the most organized, extremely well planned and lucky person ever since he was following several women, killing them in short amount of time and got away with it for years on end. Sure... And the end is pretty disappointing as well.

Excellent. Well written, suspenseful, with a rare glimpse into Sara & Jeffrey's past. And oh, Lena.
I'm hoping to see Will Trent #11 soon!
