Will Hobbs

3.48 AVERAGE

My kids loved this book, though they found it sad. I liked the great relationship between Cloyd and Walter.

I read this book to my 2nd graders and loved it.

It’s a beautiful indigenous story about celebrating the transition from winter to spring. This lead to a conversation about symbolism and cultural traditions.

Would highly recommend.

Will Hobbs knows his subjects and his understanding of culture shines through in this story of 14-year-old Ute, Cloyd Atcitty, who is raised by his grandmother and sent to live in a group home in Durango. Cloyd struggles to find his identity. When he finds an ancient stone carved in the shape of a bear, he gives himself the name, Lone Bear, hoping that the stone will give him strength and help to change his luck. As much as I despised the protagonist at times, I stuck with this book and found the ending satisfying.

Old Children's Book. Liked it as a kid, but haven't read it in years.

2.5 stars. Complex and heart-warming relationship. Poor logic and pacing.

this book is okay, what I did like is it takes place in my hometown and I like Cloyd and Walter's relationship. what I didn't like was that it was pieced together strangely to me. I also am not big into this genre. might be a good read for someone who like outdoors

The ending of this book will leave you with the warm and fuzzies.

Okay, but predictable and not as innovative or interesting as his other books.

2.5 stars. Complex and heart-warming relationship. Poor logic and pacing.
