One of the best fantasy series out there for young teens. I read them in middle school and loved them all.

"But for Lief and Jasmine it was if they were quite alone, for both of them were gaining the dearest wish of their hearts."

This was my first proper entry into the world of fantasy as a kid, and it was a good one. I read them all in my native language a long time ago, but I can still remember how fascinated I was with these books (and the sequel series) and how much joy they brought me. It has that blend of a fantasy world, a dark power to fight against, the mystery of characters, and a large land that the main characters explore as you tag along with them. Would recommend to all children old enough to read! Even adults if you want something simple, yet wonderful.

Reading this bindup as both a kid and young adult, both times I fell in love with the characters and their dynamic. I adore Emily Rodda's writing style and the way that she can build a world that I can just jump into. I loved every single page I read and I flew through this especially when rereading it as a young adult.

I am moved to tears. I love this series and always will. Especially that beautiful ending. This book and the previous series are a huge part of who I am today. I have nothing but love for Emily Rodda and her exquisitely beautiful works of art.
