This is one of my sisters' favorite childhood books and I figured it was time I read it. It did not disappoint. There's adventure, hardship, puzzles, lessons, and twists that I actually didn't see coming. I understand now why they love it so much.
Honestly, it holds up. Obviously a kids book, but the story is solid (if simple), and it hits all the nostalgia points without being too poorly written to be enjoyable to read.
One of the best fantasy series out there for young teens. I read them in middle school and loved them all.

Revisited my favourite childhood fantasy series and loved every single book. I feel like as an Australian, reading the Deltora Quest books in primary school is a write of passage haha
I can't not rate the Deltora Quest series 5/5. I absolutely loved them as a child and absolutely loved them as an adult.
I love the sense of friendship, adventure and mystery that these books evoke. They are very comforting to read, like a big warm blanket. I enjoyed the puzzles as a kid and thought I was a genius for being able to work them out.
Some parts of these books are suprisingly dark for youth fiction.
I own books 1-8 in a single book and look forward to passing it onto my children / any special little ones in my life in the future as I think they're a must read for older children.

Nostalgia goggles made me forget how poor the pacing in these books is. If you have those nostalgia goggles it's probably still enjoyable though?
This was my first proper entry into the world of fantasy as a kid, and it was a good one. I read them all in my native language a long time ago, but I can still remember how fascinated I was with these books (and the sequel series) and how much joy they brought me. It has that blend of a fantasy world, a dark power to fight against, the mystery of characters, and a large land that the main characters explore as you tag along with them. Would recommend to all children old enough to read! Even adults if you want something simple, yet wonderful.
