I found the plot rather feeble but I rated it thus, for I enjoyed a lot the descriptions of the moor and I liked a lot the fact that Watson was the major character. If you like gloomy moors and sombre books, you should give it a try.

I remember when I first read this book, long ago, that I was a bit disappointed with it. I think that may have been because Sherlock Holmes wasn't present in every chapter, much less every page. What did I care about Dr. John Watson? However, reading this in context with the other books and cases, I truly enjoyed this book. It has made in on quite a few "top" lists around the world.
Granted, Dr. Watson was "writing" the book after Holmes' death, so he is telling a case that Sherlock solved prior to his demise. It seems that so many readers were dismayed at the detective's death that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was convinced to write another story. This was the third full length book that featured one case. It pitted elements of the paranormal (the demon hound of Baskerville) with the logic and brilliant mind of Sherlock Holmes.
Mr. Stephen Fry, as ever, did a brilliant job with his foreward and narration of one of the greatest books on detection.

Mi primera vez leyendo a Sir Arthur Conan Doyle y ha estado bien, pero para mi, bien sin más.
No voy a negar que esperaba más del padre del thriller y la novela detectivesca. Supongo que el estilo de Doyle es el que es y simplemente yo no he sabido del todo como apreciarlo. Porque aunque me ha entretenido la lectura, a ratos ha sido un pelín aburrida y con ritmo inconsistente. Me la ha jugado el haber ido con las expectativas demasiado altas.
Por otra parte no me creo lo mal que me ha caído el Sherlock Holmes literario.
No sé si volveré a probar con mas historias de Doyle en el futuro, pero por ahora, me vuelvo al terror y la fantasía.
