From the author's note:

"How to Make Friends with the Dark is, above all, a book about grief. This is a book about learning how to go on, about finding your way in the dark. [...] What there is, is a lot of stumbling around in the dark, looking for a warm hand to hold on to."

This book was a challenge for me to finish, particularly because the first half vividly captures every emotion that unfolds when experiencing loss and the hollow yet numbness your body goes through. I'm glad I pushed myself to keep reading. There's no manual for coping with grief, but this book is shaped in trying to make sense of it all.

The book was really good, very sad, but good.

It's about a girl in high school who suddenly lost her mom. It really dives into the grief she experienced along with all the obstacles she has to face (such as foster care).

I really love Kathleens writing style, I've loved every single one of her books. I luckily have not had to go through the big suck as Kathleen called it, but I love how she touched on grief and growing with it.

Almost crying! I forgot how much this book makes me want to hold my mom tight. I will definitely be making a trip to see her and hold her the tightest I ever have after reading this book again
