This is a perfect “get back into reading book” for anyone. Great pace, funny, sharp, I enjoyed.

3.5 stars.

5.5/10

I was told it would be good (according to modern Mrs. Darcy at least). Unfortunately I would have to disagree. This book was a bit of a slog and the alternating viewpoints didn't help things along. I enjoyed the glimpses of motherhood of a teenager but that's about it. This is my second Waxman and I just don't think she's for me. Her books tend to be over the top and over narrated and I just can't lose myself in the pages.

Just couldn’t connect to this story or the characters.

This was fine! Not a necessarily a new favorite, but as someone who is about to go back to school for the first time in seven years (

3.5 stars, this was fun and charming.

Yep, Abbi Waxman is my fave. Her writing is so smart and witty. In this book, I particularly enjoyed the opposing perspectives of the mom vs the teen. It had me thinking a lot about relationships (particularly mother/daughter) and also laughing out loud. Highly recommend for a good time.

"She made some friends. She had an adventure, and I feel like maybe I didn't ruin her life by working all the time which is a relief. Maybe not ideal parenting but you know what?... there is no such thing... We're all doing the best we can. For ourselves, for our kids, the whole shebang."

I'm often worried for second novels following beloved debuts (loved Nina!), but this one was simply perfect. Parents and children are always learning and adapting and this duo gave me all the feels plus I really wish I had Jessica's workplace backbone. #goals
