I think Abbi Waxman is my favorite author writing today.
I really enjoyed this one. I liked the different point of view style and the relationships. What great lead characters too.
3.5 stars rounded up. Cute story! I enjoyed the witty banter, female friendships, and women standing up for themselves and each other. Though it won’t be particularly memorable, I enjoyed it!
Hidden for very minor spoilers:
I really enjoyed the beginning of this book. Parts of it were laugh out loud funny and if you are raising a teenager you will relate. I loved the interactions between mother and daughter because they rang 100% true. But then it turned into a ridiculous crime caper and then seemed unnecessary. Probably closer to a 3.5.

Abbi Waxman is one of my favorites, and this is just what I've come to expect from her. I loved the tension between mom Jessica and daughter Emily and anticipate some of this tension with my own daughter in the future. They really love each other and just want to be understood. I think I would have loved it more had I been in the college prep time with my daughter, but still a lovely read.
"I Was Told It Would Get Easier" is a delightful mother daughter story. The author shows the inner thoughts of both main characters, and she digs deep into the strains of parent-child relationships, especially at college decision time. Both of them are on individual journey of growth, but they also come to new understanding of each other. I highly recommend this book.

Told by mother Jessica and teenage daughter Emily this light story of a week long college tour is a little extreme at times with the mother daughter trope but in the end it was a light easy read.
I had a lot of fun with this book, somewhat sappy as it was. Maybe it's because college does not seem that far way when you have a tween.
