There's vague-ish spoilers in here throughout but no huge plot points so I'm not gonna worry about tagging them, I'm sorry 🙏🏻

I loved every minute of this book. I read the assassin's blade before this bc I heard it had a really high emotional impact and holy shit, it was perfect. Having TAB freshly on my mind made so much of this book more intense. I loved heir of fire but I actually think this one beat it. Literally my only two not-wildly-in-love thoughts were that it almost felt like too many POVs with the introduction of Elide, but even then 🤷🏻‍♀️ I really liked elide. My other thought was that aedion got real weird about aelin for a minute despite the fact that they're obviously not love interests and never could be. I understand he missed her and blah blah blah whatever but oh my god all the stuff about her scent and her body and everything was real weird for a cousin, I'm just saying 🤨 now rowan's thoughts about aelin's scent and body, on the other hand, well... heh 😌 more please 😌 bc seriously good hell no more teasing, I just can't take it 😮‍💨

Even chaol pissbaby westfall had some redemption towards the end. I didn't think I'd care if he got redemption, he's my tog tamlin at this point, buuuut he did do something useful so I guess I could allow it.

Seeing aelin do all the cool shit she did tho? That was just. Truly the best. The very best. She and her court have my endless love and respect and adoration. Queen of terrasen, queen of my heart. Mwah. Incredible. I fuckin loved this book. Peak SJM to say the least. The plot twist towards the end had me literally gasping out loud. Now, is that maybe bc I'm a little dumb and didn't see it coming? Possibly. Do I care? No. 💅🏻

Excellent book, can't wait for the rest 😌

The writing in this one was a bit more cheesy than the last ones at the "big" moments, but it's fine. This feels a bit like a fantasy soap opera and I'm okay with that.

Overall - 3.5

To those that say the series gets better…I get it now.

There are still some qualms I have overall, but I throughly enjoyed the escapism this book allowed me.

The found family vibe is strong and the themes of love and friendship. I was relieved with the strong pivot in the approach to female friendship here, and how a “not like the other girls” character became a champion for the power and value of female friendship and the strength of the women around her that had also survived against the odds.

Sarah J. Maas is in a league of her own. Honestly, I can’t even. She has such a talent and can make you fall in love with characters you entirely dismissed originally.

We seen Aelin really grow as a character in Heir of Fire and now she really does lead her court as the ‘fire breathing bitch queen’ she truly is. We really see a lot of character growth here and see Aelin stand on her own to feet and come into her own. Plus Mr Territorial Rowan - yes please!

Manon and Abraxos were definitely another two favourites of mine. Manon is another female character that gives of major badass vibes and Abraxos is just too much! I can’t wait to see how Manon and her Thirteen develop in the next book. I can definitely feel a massive shift happening here.

Elide, Lorcan and Lysandra are three more characters I’ve got my eye on moving forward. Elide, I think has the potential to bring some badass female energy to her story, Lorcan could go either way here but Lysandra surprised me. I’m interested to see where these three come into their own moving forward.

Queen of Shadows wraps up the start of this series and it’s almost as if we have a totally new hoard of characters to follow moving on. But the finale!! Give me more - right now! I love how everything is lining up for the no doubt, insane battle that we’re encroaching on. A battle of epic proportions that will decide the fate of all the characters we have come to hold so dear.x

This book is filled with plot points. We see many plot twists, epic battles and many new character introduced who become pivotal to the rest of the story. This is definitely climbing the ranks for me. I can’t wait to see where Maas takes this in the next instalment of the ToG series.
