It is really slow paced and not a well made pastiche. I think that if you want to read this, I would recommend reading it slowly as it gets confusing at times

unfortunately just didn’t deliver on the spook factor - arthur sees the ghost and hears some things (the rocking chair, the child screaming etc) a few times but that’s it. we are told towards the end of the book that sightings of the woman in black bring on accidental deaths of children but this just seems to be a set up for the ending and not actually utilised in the main plot of the book

This movie traumatized me so I thought “why not read the book” 😅

I loved the writing with its underlying tension and creepy vibes! I half expected it to be scarier but that could be because of my experience with the movie.
The book definitely creeps you out and gives you goosebumps 🫣

Although it took a little bit to get into the novel (about 50ish pages), by the second half I didn’t want to put it down while also cowering under a blanket. I love ghost stories/books about hauntings and this did not disappoint! Highly recommend for any other ghost/haunted story lovers, and it makes a perfect rainy autumn read 👻
