I got really nervous when I started it because it wasn’t what I expected. I think this is a perfect example of a book with spice compared to a spicy book. It was dual p.o.v but I thought it could’ve honestly just have been in Adam‘s p.o.v (and just mention Olivia‘s at the end because we really need it there) I still thought the first half of the book was good however it wasn’t until the 70% mark that I couldn’t put it down!

My only issue is that when we are introduced to Olivia she gives off the same energy as Adam but at some point at the beginning her personality and feelings just change dramatically and she went from having the balls to stand up to him to those balls deflating when she finally wants to play his game only to quickly change back to how she was before (giving off the same energy as Adam) So that whole flip-flop was just weird to me and it just didn’t flow with the story in my opinion

Hmmm

I read this because of everything I seen on tiktok. Its a different story than what I expected. Its a slow burn and evolving story but once you get 60 percent into it they story picks up and you really start to understand what happening around the couple. Everyone needs a Adam in their life.

first 30% was good but lost interest the rest of the way in... continuing this series for coltons book tho

I’ve never read anything by this author before so this was a lovely surprise and I found myself really enjoying this one a lot. I’m definitely going to be checking out more from them now that’s for sure.

This was way less dark than I was expecting the darkness comes from what the soldiers do with their vigilante sideline rather than Olivia and Adam’s dynamic. Yes, he is a bit stalker obsessed but other than that everything else is entirely consensual between them and Olivia actually likes this about him despite how much she initially gripes about it. Adam manages to make her feel wanted adored and special with his razor focus and he manages to burrow right under Olivias defences. I also liked that Adam wasn’t a fuck-boy and he was choosy in his attentions.

This had chemistry and heart I did think some of Adam’s fellow soldiers were a tad underdeveloped but I still liked this one. There’s delicious darkness as well as the romance and I’m definitely on board for more stories set in this world. The developing bond between these two ended up being rather sweet and Adam falls for Olivia instantly whilst she does take a tad longer to catch up with him the fascination for her is always there.

Definitely recommend this it was well written an easy read that managed to keep me engaged.

The H is a stalker and with a title like The Psycho, I was never going to resist this one. However, it missed the mark for me. It’s not bad, it fell more along of the lines of ‘this is fine’ for me, personally.

Here’s what I did like:

I liked the H,he was a bit broody but I liked his intensity and his instant obsession with Olivia. The cover here is absolutely fire and I 100% pictured the cover model as H.

I enjoyed the scenes with h and her brothers. I liked that she was strong and not a complete pushover.

Here’s where it fell short for me:

This is my first read by this author. This is identified as a standalone. I don’t dispute that the story works as a standalone BUT these characters, especially Olivia, are clearly from a related series that this series has spun off from.

Olivia’s friends, Emily and Effy are the h’s from the original series and they have a clear bond and friendship. The issue I had personally was it felt very foreign to me to have continuous reminders of the relationship they had with each other and the many references to their own unusual and special romances.

Adam and his friends are some sort of mercenary group that are lethal and badass. Some of their interactions didn’t ring true for lethal, badass mercenaries - I can’t imagine guys like that do a lot of chatting about relationships and helping each other land their special ladies.

I actually really enjoy a kind of resistant h that gets pursued by a determined H but her resistance went on too long for me. It’s almost 70% before she’s on board with trying a relationship with him.

He was Mr. Obsessed Stalker but she knew he was stalking her. He didn’t exactly make a secret of it and they texted each other with him trying to woo her while she insulted and discouraged him. I didn’t understand why he didn’t just go for it because eventually he does but it wasn’t clear to me why he was holding back.

Story 3/5, Heat 2/5, Darkness 2/5, Angst 1.5/5

Slower medium burn, they get it on at 64%, I consider anything past 65% a slow burn. Even after they bang she goes all girly insecure and runs away telling him “he got what he wanted and to now leave her alone”. He does go after her though - after his friends tell him to do it. There are about 5-6 sexy scenes once they are together.

No condoms, no virgins, I don’t think he was a manwhore, they use a safe word but the sex was fairly vanilla overall, no OW drama, insignificant OM drama, massive push away from h, no breakups or separation once together (minus her initial post-sex freak out that was probably less than an hour), no cheating, no sharing, no cliffhanger and HEA with epilogue.

Safety - there is an OW we meet briefly in the beginning of book - she hits on H, we’re told she frequently hits on him. He blows her off. No interest in her.

H is very jealous/possessive. After they officially get together h is surprised set up with a guy at a picnic her friends invite her to. It’s awkward. She’s not into it. H is a stalker and sees. They have bathroom sex.

This book does have gruesome, graphic violence, torture and murder. There are mentions of pedophilia as the H and his buddies get kicks out of torturing and murdering those sickos.

This is an entertaining crime romance story. Despite being the first in a series, it’s clear from the beginning that this is a spin-off series. I was a little overwhelmed by the characters at first, and I experienced some serious FOMO from the previous series. That said, after about halfway through the book I figured out who everyone else was (by the time it didn’t seem to matter anymore!) and I started to really get into this book. Adam is damaged and, well, psycho, but he’s surprisingly sweet to Olivia.

This is a cute book, and I’m really looking forward to the next ones in this series! 4 stars.
