Hach, schon wieder so ein nettes Buch! Bin mir allerdings nicht ganz sicher, ob mir The FlatShare nicht besser gefällt - vor allem Leenas Liebesgeschichte ging mir dann ein bissle holterdipolter am Schluss. Sind also vielleicht nur 4,8 und keine 5 Sterne - trotzdem bin ich ganz scharf auf Frau O'Learys neues Buch, das dieses Jahr noch kommen soll.

2020 review:
The Switch follows a woman and her grandmother, both of them in a rut, who decide to switch living situations. Leena goes to live in her grandmother's house in a small village, and Eileen goes to live in the city with her granddaughter's roommates.
My favorite christmas movie is The Holiday, so of course I would read any book with a slightly similar premise. I think this book definitely captured the same vibe as the movie, without the plots being in too similar.
I liked both of the main characters, but Eileen was my favorite perspective to read from. Yes she's 79 and looking for a sweet old grandpa to fall in love with, so on the surface we should have nothing in common, but I really thought she was the most relatable character I've read in a long time.
Beth O'Leary has this really light and easy writing style, making this an easy read and a comforting book to sink into, despite touching on darker themes like grief and loneliness (and it handles those themes very well).
I don't know why this book is shelved by most people on goodreads as a romance. There is romance in here, but it's not a Romance Novel. Self-discovery, friendship, and family are all more important parts of the book than Eileen and Leena's romantic relationships. I would say leans a lot more towards chick-lit (a term I absolutely hate. Please let me know of you have a good alternative to "chick-lit", preferably something that doesn't have the word "women" in it).

Unfortunately, I loved the concept of this book and the characters. But the relationship between the two MC’s hit a little too close to home for me and made this a difficult read for me. DNF.

Very sweet, wholesome and fun! Eileen was my favourite character and I loved reading from her POV.
