Fresh and Fun

I really liked the direction CCJ went in with this book. Eddie was different from the usual leading men that we get. The difference worked without being off putting. He was still very sexy and desirable. The chemistry between Eddie and Astrid was amazing. I’m happy for them.

Good book. I was a little hesitant to read b/c I'm not interested in reading about gay sex scenes, its just not my thing, but I finished the book and the scenes were man and woman. So that's good (according to my preference)!

Anyways. I liked this book. It focuses on falling in love with someone's energy instead of appearance. It focuses on how someone makes you feel and how they make you wanna change your ways and open up to new experiences. I liked that! It wasn't all about "I saw him and he was sexy, now I'm in love" but it was more "the energy I felt when being around and the way they make me feel, is this love?"

The only downside was the ending. I didn't like how it ended with them agreeing to trying to be in a relationship. I wish we could have explored what they would be like and how they end up, like we did with all the others in the series. It it was a happy ending!

Soooo...I think this may have been my favorite book in this series...

Something Like Love focuses on Eddie and Astrid. I swear I didn't realize I was craving an Eddie story until I started reading this book. Based on the previous books in this series, you go into Something Like Love knowing that Eddie is bisexual and honestly, I would have been more than happy to read about him and either a girl or a guy. But in this book, you get to see him with Astrid.

Astrid is a yoga instructor, graphic designer and a complete and utter free spirit. Eddie is too, but if you take Eddie's energy and vibe and multiply it by 1000 you get Astrid. Young, open-minded, carefree, centered and all into the chakras and centering of the mind, body, soul and all that jazz.

Something Like Love brought a completely different type of dynamic to this series and to any other romance novel I've read. It was interesting seeing Eddie have to battle the ignorance and insecurities that other people had because of the way he chose to live his life and show his love. Just like in this book, there are people that I know who refuse to believe that a man can be bisexual. To them, if you're a man and you like men, you're gay and that is the beginning and end of it. I really enjoyed watching how Eddie and even Astrid had to navigate and deal with a world that had people in it who was constantly questioning Eddies identity. Its crazy, people see something they don't understand and either automatically reject it or feel the need to interject and try and change that something into something they can process and fit into a box.

One of the things I really love about CCJ's writing that was especially evident in this book is her conversations. They always feel so authentic and natural which is why I feel like it is so easy for me to get invested in these stories and these characters. Because she writes them and their voices in a way that is so easy to understand and relate to. I read these books and I feel like I'm reading a conversation that I've had with my friends or family. Nothing about these characters or their stories ever feels contrived or fake. I read these books and I think, this has happened to someone somewhere before.

I've grown used to not getting multiple books about the same characters for Christina but this is one of the times where I REALLY wish I could get another 250 - 300 pages about these characters and their relationships because I enjoyed it THAT much.

Another winner...and I truly hope that I get to read more. Not just about Eddie and Astrid but also about the other characters that were introduced and mentioned.

LOVED IT!!!

Eddie is a new fav

I really enjoyed Eddie & Astrid's story. It was great to read slightly unconventional characters. I absolutely loved the ending because it fit so well with the characters.

I read this novella months ago and then reread it. Then I keep bringing up the characters. My rating has now been changed from a 4.5 to a 5 star read for me. Astrid & Eddie are just it for me. One of my favorite characters, especially because CCJ addresses LGBTQ+ double standards and the phobias that impact them.

I finished the series!!!!!

This one was a solid 3 stars for me. It was a good read, but I have to admit, it took me longer to complete this one than any other book from the Serendipitous Love series. I am still trying to figure out why that was the case, but nonetheless, it is done.

Something Like Love focuses on two characters that appear throughout the majority of the other books. Eddie and Astrid. Personally, I was anxious to see Eddie get his own story because he brought so much humor and honesty to the other books. Astrid and Eddie are eclectic and bring a different definitions of "romance" and "relationships" to the series. Their transparency as individuals and with one another was well communicated in the story and CCJ did a great job of communicating it.

Really enjoyed this MF opposites attract bi romance between two Black small business owners in an urban neighborhood with a small town feel.

I enjoyed the bi rep, although I felt like there were too many bi 101 explanations.
