This book is so fucked up. Truly do not read it if you are not prepared for graphic depictions of the horrors of war crimes and sexual violence. Left me asking: do I support women's wrongs? I just don't know but it sure was an incredible read. The author really took the main character and said "what if I made her so much worse?"

Yeah this was fire. I don't think I've ever read a depiction of war like this in fiction, let alone fantasy. It's so nuanced and realistic and painful. It sucks you in with one story and leaves you standing amidst the wreckage of another. This is a master class in fantasy writing!

Holy. Fucking. Shit. I have not read a book that has made my heart pound like this in a very, very long time. I recommend going in blind, and then re-reading after you do some historical research. And for the love of God, READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS. It’s graphic. It’s sickening. And it is incredible.
