I enjoyed this book until the graphic descriptions of war. If you have read this book, you know the descriptions I am referring to. I had nightmares—the same that plagued me after my Japanese history class. Some things are too far, and I cannot think of a reason to rewrite very real war crimes in a fictional book. You can get emotion without that level of detail.

First 250 pages I read in one sitting and then I kind of had to force myself to keep going. Beautiful book with a cool fantasy world but oh my god is it fucking gruesome.

The first 60% is wonderful and intense and then the last 40% is a horrific description of the mutiliation of a two different people groups. I nearly threw up reading this. It's very unethical to make a fantasy novel using actual historical accounts of one of the worst crimes agains humanity. Really horrendous. Please do yourself a favor and skip this novel. There is a limit to violence that people should not cross for the sake of entertainment and this book crossed it.

This was engagingly written, but I ended up dipping in and out of the story which meant I enjoyed it less than had I focused on it as a chunk.

It's a long book, an exciting adventure, pretty gruesome, great ending.
