I keep hoping I'll enjoy John Dickson Carr's work, but I'm always wrong. This is, to be fair, the closest I've come -- Gideon Fell mostly keeps out of it, leaving other characters not being ghastly know-it-alls. There's remarkably little superior chuckling from someone who artificially has all the clues already, for a John Dickson Carr book.

Still, it's weird about the female characters, there's some horrible phonetic dialogue, and it all descends into slapstick humour. Let's not.
