I’m having a hard time deciding between two stars and three. I'm going to go with 2.5. The reason it's a little more than 2 stars is because the audiobook narrators are really good, and I quite enjoyed the first half of the story. But the second half devolved into kind of a mess. It’s hard to say much about it without spoilers, but basically I feel like there is a law of diminishing returns when you add one too many twists to a plot.

A lot of the reviews for this book say it starts out strong and has a disappointing ending. I do not agree with those reviews. This is an enjoyable book from start to finish. In fact, some of the story near the ending was going a little off the rails, but the author brought it back (imho).

I look forward to reading more by this author! He was suggested to me as being similar to Chuck Palahniuk. I do see the similarities but it starts and ends with the absurdist theme, he is not "like" Palahniuk. Maybe more like Christopher Moore without the humor.

you should enjoy this book if you like surreal modern fantasy set in a world with super secret operatives. It deals with the concepts of good vs. evil and does not shy away from subjects that may make people uncomfortable.
