Not my favorite in the series, but still entertaining (not least because of Nathaniel Parker's excellent narration). Colfer continues to grow his characters, but not as seamlessly as in the previous novel. The insertion of a female child genius felt a bit forced, though I could see the temptation to pit Artemis against a human equal. I would have liked to have seen more of Holly and Mulch's adventures as private detectives, rather than the immediate restoration of the status quo (Holly as law enforcement officer). I do enjoy watching Artemis develop deeper relationships with those around him, though.
Verdict: Not a bad way to pass the time on the daily commute.

Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony (My Kindle Review)
Artemis Fowl has met his match in a new foe in the fifth entry, Minerva Paradizo. Not just that, a very sacred fairy island is in danger and now Artemis and the fairies, including a elite group of ones, must keep a demor war from happening. A- (91%/Excellent)

For some reason this was one of the books I remembered better from when I had read it when I was younger, perhaps because the story was so distinct and I loved the time traveling and other dimensional nature of this book's story. It was still an interesting and enjoyable read as I reread it again.

Solid story and nostalgic to revisit childhood characters.

Artemis has completed his transformation from a criminal mastermind to a do-gooder genius. Going so far as to look-out for his fairy friends... without seeking a payout. His parallel Mulch is right there with him, working as a private investigator in the Lower Elements with Holly and actually enjoying it!!!
The book was another great instalment in the Artemis Fowl series, but I feel as though the plot slowed down a lot because of all the new technical details. Things also moved so quickly that sometimes it was hard to keep up, but it definitely kept me on the edge.
I was slightly disappointed with Minerva. It appeared that Colfer wanted to create an equal for Artemis (just in time for him to develop a romantic interest since he's going through puberty). And while Minerva is definitely a twelve-year genius in her own right, she is far from Artemis' equal. Especially considering that Colfer goes out of the way to highlight the fact that she's as girly as possible by highlighting just how pretty she is, throwing tantrums when she doesn't get what she wants, and getting emotional when things go wrong. Girl geniuses are usually the opposite... actually. Artemis was very detached when it came to his plans, even when his plans went wrong, and he always had several contingency plans as back-up. Frankly, I'm just tired of having one token female in a cast of all men.
The end action sequence was definitely epic. So much was happening so quickly and the chaos was palpable.
I wasn't sure about that ending though. Skipping three years (while I understand why it happened) seems like a huge plot twist. Plus Artemis stealing magic just when he was supposed to finally be good. But I suppose that sets us up for the next book.

I don't have a lot to say about this book, other than I wasn't disappointed and enjoyed it thoroughly. It did start out a bit slow for me, there are quite a few new characters introduced which is sometimes hard on a reader in a series-they just want to hear about the good old characters they love! But that's also something I do love about this series-it's not scared to make big changes and developments and add more important characters and twists to the mix. Things actually change, which is kind of rare in series.
As always, I love Artemis and Butler, and I like Holly when she's with other characters I like-like Artemis and Butler, and Foaly. I like Mulch, too. (I also like Juliet, but unfortunately, she didn't show up in this book). I wasn't a large fan of a new character that got a lot of time in this novel, called No. l. However, I did like the other large addition, Minerva, even if her inclusion felt a little...expected? Conventional? Typical? So, her inclusion is typical, but the character herself I liked and it should be interesting to see what happens with her. And she's typical because honestly, she probably was needed to keep the stories going in a way.
As always, I look forward to reading more!

Ok so I really really can't judge this fairly because I just realized I never finished the fourth book.
However; this one started with a lot of newly introduced characters and new setting. And I really did not like a lot of the new characters (except nr 1 whom I loved). And didn't enjoy the new species and world introduced. This was also why I didnt realize I missed half a book (just thought I forgotten some details since reading it).
Artemis also seemed really insecure for most of the book which I was disappointed with.
I wouldve given it 3 stars but I wont because I feel missing some things from the 4th book really influenced my experience (wondering why some characters weren't involved).
It was still written awesomely, I still love some of the characters and I will still continue reading books from this great series.
Anyway I will be reading the 4th book asappp
