I think sally rooney’s writing is so real and so raw. I think I am also a slave to my emotions and Frances and her thoughts and self obsession and self destruction was incredibly real and relatable to me (minus the affair lol). I just hope that none of these people I ever meet in real life

this is a story about love, in many forms. i liked only one of the characters, everyone else was so unlikable i wanted to punch them in the face (and THAT is what i loved the most about this book). i wasn’t on anyone’s side, because these characters captured the complexity of relationships and feelings and being human so well. everyone was right and everyone was wrong in a lot of ways. i loved normal people by sally rooney, and this book wasn’t what i expected it to be; i’m not disappointed by it, and i’m also not super sure i would read it again.

A stunning look at the messiness of relationships and the complexity of emotions. Rooney created such interesting characters who were all flawed but brought out important themes throughout. I loved how Rooney complimented the uncertainty of the characters' thoughts and actions with intelligent commentary of the socioeconomic climate in the story. I found it difficult initially to understand Frances and Bobbi's involvement with Melissa and Nick but by the end I could appreciate how symbolic and thought-provoking their relationships were.
