This was my first Sally Rooney read. I think I should have started with Normal People because I loved the TV Show adaptation πŸ‘€ however... I am so conflicted about this book.

I really liked the first half of it and I was very much looking forward to the character development phase... which never arrived πŸ˜…

Sally Rooney's writing was definitely really good but imo it was lacking some humor. The characters were so serious and pretentious ALL THE TIME, it was hard for me to sympathize or care about what happened to them. One of the characters has depression and (as someone diagnosed) I could not relate to the way it was depicted here.

The story also had some continuity issues specially regarding France's economic situation πŸ‘€

Overall it was a good book, but it depicts a society I am not part of and even though some of the topics reached in the narrative were interesting, I will not be revisiting the story.

π•ƒπ”Όπ•Šπ•Šπ•†β„•π•Š 𝕃𝔼𝔸ℝℕ𝔼𝔻 (I mean...I learned them but I'm not sure the characters did πŸ˜‚)

β€’ cheating on your partner is not a very healthy way to spice up your marriage πŸ‘€ if you want to explore an open relationship your significant other definitely needs to be part of the conversation

β€’ if you're broke and you find yourself in a situation where you have to prioritize a vacation trip to France or a non insured medical visit for an unexplained chronic pain...choose the doctor's visit πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ health is the most important thing!

β€’ A mental illness does not exempt you from taking responsibility for your actions. I have been diagnosed with both anxiety and depression and I'm still kind to others.

✏️ This book should have been called "Conversations with lovers" wtf

✏️ Frances nooo! That was not a very smart decision πŸ˜…

An insane attention to detail in otherwise mundane, day-to-day life. Makes you feel like one of the characters; Frances is both relatable and flawed. You couldn’t really love any character and you couldn’t really hate any character either, which I think is a lot like real life.

DBF at 230 pages. I really tried you guys. Not even Taylor Swift could help get me through this book. Unfortunately it is not possible to give a zero star rating. Seriously, save yourself the headache, the time, and the braincells.
