So far, this is the best book that I’ve read about Jane Austen‘s books. If you’re a fan of hers you really need to read this memoir by another Austen lover.

Highly enjoyable book. Jane Austen has so often been relegated to 'women's' reading that it was fantastic to get a male's perspective on her. Very well done.

This was an excellent book that gave me a great look at teaching Austen and the influences that it can have on one's life.

This had quite a bit more literary criticism than I was expecting, but Deresiewicz's perspective on Austen's insights and wisdom was just as interesting as how he brought her ideals into his life. I'm not sure if I would've enjoyed this quite as much if I'd read it by myself, but because I read it slowly, discussing each chapter with a few of my friends---who were only slightly familiar with Austen's books---I had the opportunity to really consider the ideas and life lessons Deresiewicz introduces.

Short, easy to digest scholarship/memoir. Didn't agree with every conclusion he made, but he made some points I hadn't thought of, and he adores Miss Austen enough to satisfy me!

Next to reading and rereading Austen’s novels, I also find joy in reading about other people’s introduction to and experience with her work. This memoir is thought provoking and insightful.

I loved this book - of course I have read all of Austen's books, but it made me want to go back and re-read with a new eye. I don't know how it would hold up if you haven't read the books though, and probably in that case, it wouldn't appeal to you at all.
