This is written with zero flow, no editing, and all around bad storying telling. The spacing and large margins feel like needing to meet a page count on an assignment.
It Looks Like Dad goes from 1 to 1000000x on the scary scale and doesn’t slow down. The thing I loved most about this book is that I wanted more of it. More of these characters in this very scary world. An achievement by new publisher Little Ghosts Books!

Based on the cover and the book description I was expecting something darker and sinister, so I was caught off guard by how fun this story is. Sure, it has its dark moments, but it's more action-packed sci-fi horror as opposed to dark and dreadful Lovecraftian horror. A few moments felt rushed, and I wished I'd gotten a bit more lore out of some of the characters, but it is a very enjoyable read. Also, Rudy is the best part and I needed more of him!
Cosmic horror, a bit of a terminator vibe, not what I was expecting but it was a pleasant surprise for the doppelgänger dad and Ruby to be likeable characters. Some further editing would have bumped this up to a 5 star read for me. Could have used another round of editing to really tighten up the piece— substantive editing, copy editing, proofreading. But I’ll give it some grace considering this is an indie publication. The style of writing used for the open sequence made it a weak opening for me. Passive voice used here ineffectively. Alien body horror, lovecraft mythos/lovecraftien vibes, cosmic dieties, parallel universes, doppelgängers, apocalypse.

Anyone who likes cosmic horror should read this book. It’s creepy in all the right places and the body horror is spot on.
