Brief summary A bird loses it's mother. The bird searches all over town to find his mother in many unusual places. Until the bird's mother finds him right where she left him, in the nest.
Annotation - The worry kids have about being lost is addressed in a easy manner by having the bird ask everyone and thing if they are his mother. The bird is scared but found right where he was supposed to be all along.
Age appropriateness 3-6
Connection to six early literacy skills
Narrative Skills - the story keeps the reader going and guessing what might happen next.
Five practices
Reading is best used here, although this gives parents a chance to talk to their child about how they should not leave where they are so they don't get lost.
Opinion - This is a good book that children seem to really like, perhaps because it plays upon a fear they have in real life and the result is positive.

Another cute book that I grew up reading, and I believe my mom grew up reading as well. This book has been around forever, and is practically required reading material before going to preschool! A little bird searches for his mother, and encounters all kinds of animals and objects along the way. PK especially likes the "SNORT!"

This classic, predictable tale of a bird in search of him mama is a perennial favorite in our home. I've read it now to all of our sons thanks, in part, to a reference to the book in Youngest's last chapter book Ready Freddy.

This is a cute little story about a baby bird who is searching for his mother. Young children may be wondering who the bird's mother truly is, as well. This book takes the reader on a quest where they meet many different animals.
