This was quite fast paced - I rather expected that it might take some time to get into Neanderthal themes (it's like 20 pages in), and the book keeps moving through the years, so you get to see how both the characters and the environment develop over that time.
Good flawed characters struggling through, and some developments that didn't go as I was expecting.
Lot of interesting themes on raising a neanderthal as a science project, of course.

Great story.

It was difficult to put down. I hope this isn't our future, though it seems we are headed in that direction.

See, the concept was amazing and I loved the dystopian-climate-change-anarchy theme, but the plot got pretty lame. It was like diminishing marginal utility because it started pretty strong with Kate and Jay working in this too secret project (oOoO) but as the focus switched to Eve it just got less and less interesting.

Not to mention the ending was trash like the most exciting to happen was probably a robbery. Yeah that’s right. A robbery. And then she just leaves and finds her idk genetic non-homo-sapien friends that speaks in baguettes.

DNF, too many stretches where nothing happens or something builds up to no payoff. Also the Elon Zuckerberg bad guy character is just over played at this point

Loved this book. So many wonderful big ideas woven into personal narratives of loss and belonging.

I enjoyed this enough to finish. However, I find parts of the female main characters written by a man problematic. I also found the 'post-climate change world unbelievable and unrealistic at times.
