This is probably really awesome but I do not have enough contextual knowledge about mediaeval period in England to enjoy this. I will probably return to this for individual essays, but reading it as a whole is not for me.

I read this because I want to expand the type of books I read. I picked it up because of its gorgeous cover and the lure of important women hidden until now. The book delivered exactly what it said it would, and I suppose I would rate it higher if I was in the practice of reading non-fiction books. However, I am not. This took me an exact month to get through (I immediately started a new book after that was longer which only took me 6 days). I just didn’t itch to read it. I had to force myself to pick it up and I struggled to keep reading once I started. It is such an interesting topic and I do think it’s really important. I would recommend it to those wanting to learn more about the Middle Ages and who also have a specific interest in feminine issues. Some of the chapters were really good and I was more engaged, but others seemed all over the place. The book focuses mainly on a handful of different women from different areas and periods with a few important secondary women thrown in. However, there doesn’t seem to be any plot. It kind of just feels like reading a transcript of a lecture. I’m debating between 3 or 4 stars, but think I will do 3 as it just wasn’t for ME personally. It's not a bad book by any means though.
