Cute little book. It was a quick read and interesting. Starts with a woman who witness a person in a large bunny costume kidnap a young girl. She doesn't realize it's a kidnapping until too  late, and then she is desperate to help find the girl. Along the way, we uncover a history of kidnappings that has affected the main character and the town.

McMahon has a way of writing characters that you really don't like, but eventually you sympathize with them. In this story, her main character Rhonda is someone I''d like to ignore, but face it, we all have our problems. Plenty of people would like to ignore me—I get it.

This books features McHahon's classic twists and turns and back and form time frames, although here, unlike in her later novels, there's no hint of the supernatural. I do admit I never saw the main twist coming at me. I did suss out another twist, but that one was laid out like a dinner spread.

I have been reading McMahon's novels out of order, and, after just reading the excellent The Night Sister, I know her later work is much richer and satisfying. I have her latest novel waiting for me, but I plan to read other earlier works first.

Yep, I'm on a McHahon binge—too bad she only has seven novels for me to enjoy!

Flew through this one too. I love her writing style, the only thing I don't like is that there are too many characters that I can't keep all of them straight. Other than that, one of my new favorite authors. Hope she writes tons more!

I love Jennifer McMahon. She has never once disappointed me! Eerie, twisty, page turners every time.

Edited to add: This was one of her first published books, so the writing wasn’t AS good as her newer books in my opinion, but I still couldn’t put it down.

Wow!!! So good! So many twists and turns. Now that was a good thriller/suspense! Much better than my last read.

As Rhonda watches, a large rabbit in a VW Beetle calmly abducts a little girl sitting alone in another car. She's stunned into inaction and her lack of action spur her to join the volunteers helping with the search for the kidnapped girl as well as to do some investigating of her own. The main suspect is the older brother of her childhood best friend, a friend who also disappeared one morning on her way to school, although Lizzy was presumed to have been abducted by her father, who had left his family a few years earlier.

Island of Lost Girls by Jennifer McMahon is exactly the kind of book I used to devour with great enthusiasm. McMahon is a capable writer and the character of Rhonda is well realized. Unfortunately, the person eventually revealed to be the kidnapper and the reasons behind the crime don't hold together very well. And the author carefully made sure there were no loose ends at the end of the novel, making sure the reader has no need of an imagination or even much of a brain.

I read this book as it has been on my tbr for some time and the author has a new book out that looked interesting. There is something satisfying about crossing an author off of the list of authors to read; there are already too many books out there. Still, McMahon can write and if she attempts something less formulaic and tidy I would be tempted to give her another shot.

This is simply a great book. Full of suspense, emotion and surprises. The ending is a teensy bit cliche, but not so much that it ruins the book.
