This book was my favourite of the four in this series so far. I wanted to see more of Alicia Stoke-Whitney after the first book, and this one delivered. I enjoyed very much how her character developed, and I’m hoping for more in future books. She’s written with more depth to her than many of the other characters in the books. Aunt Hetty’s story was also developed more in this book, and again I’d like more of her. The murder victim was a colourful character, much more so than previously, which was a nice touch. I worked out the murderer quite early on, but then that’s not what I read the books for. These are not Agatha Christie-level plots. But you’re looking for an easy, cosy murder / romance / historical novel without expecting too much, this could be for you.

An easy listen but not really super enjoyable or having much to commend it.
You continue learning about the Countess and her fiancee but not really a great read.
