If give this 3 1/2 stars. Interesting read and interesting ending.
Kate Atkinson writes some of the best books on the shelf these days. Such interesting characters and a wonderful plot twist.
While Kate Atkinson’s “A God in Ruins” was the first of her books I didn’t enjoy, I thought it was a fluke as I loved several of her other books, including the entire Jackson Brodie Series. I simply found the main character dull and never made it to her World War II activity (the whole pint of the book). Ah, well, maybe I’ll try again as this novel has received a good bit of acclaim.
I enjoyed the commentation of the main character’s inner thoughts. It added some comedic relief to a story of war.
slow-paced
Kate Atkinson continues to write terrific books. Transcription made two 4-hour train journeys fly by in her 'imaginative reconstruction' of WW11 London and it's 1950's follow through.

This book was a weird book, I must say. I really enjoyed the diverse characterizations but I didn’t enjoy the book overall. It felt fragmented, and even though it spanned decades, the main character didn’t really grow. When she lays dying in the street, I think I cared less at the end of the book than I did during the flash forward at the beginning.
Interesting enough. Probably best read at once and not listened to in pieces. WW2 spies.
