Kate Atkinson

3.46 AVERAGE

I've really loved some of Atkinson's other books, especially "Life After Life" and others in that series, but I'm disappointed by this one. It dragged some in the second half, and then the ending came so quickly and surprisingly, leaving several loose ends. Not my favorite but she is still an excellent writer.

I usually adore Kate Atkinson’s novels, but I just couldn’t get into this one.

Enjoyed it but I'm not sure that it entirely stuck the landing, plotwise.

Flaws of characters a main focus: No

Atkinson had me ricocheting through time. Sometimes I was dizzy from the plot twists. Who worked for whom and for what cause? What about that flamingo? Who the heck WAS Juliet or Iris or Madge? What the heck is memory and history? But I followed Miss Armstrong all the way to dark tunnel. I couldn't help myself.

I loved this book. Maybe because it neatly covers the Venn Diagrams of many of my interests, or maybe because I was in London this year and could accurately picture many of the locations she described. Overall, a fascinating read and highly recommended!

I enjoyed Transcription. The story was intriguing and Juliet is a complex character who lies so easily. I think I would have enjoyed the paper book more than audio as sometimes I lost track of characters (and that was due to distraction, not the fault of the author).
