It was too… moment by moment. That and other aspects just weren’t for me.

An emotional roller coaster of a story that I wasn’t ready for but absolutely needed. Maddie is the epitome of character development and has a way of making you reflect about the choices and people in your own life. This story is absolutely beautifully raw and riveting.

A truly great book about a young woman trying to find who she is. Dealing with guilt, depression, racial issues and grief. Great themes.

Maddie, a 25 year old living in London, has shrunk her life down to be a caretaker for her father who has Parkinson's. This explores complicated parental and sibling relationships, complex friendships, failed relationships, work struggles - it really encapsulates what it feels like to be in your mid to late twenties stumbling through life waiting for things to make sense. This is a brilliant coming of age novel and a stunning debut from Jessica George. It includes nuanced conversations around race, depression, friendships, illness, culture, familial tension, sex and dating, and handles each topic with grace and insight. Maddie was so relatable and I loved her as a narrator, she felt real and complex and watching her character growth was so satisfying.
