Reading this has been nothing short of spectacular, I couldn't put it down and frankly I'm in love with Maame. Jessica George is a gift.
(btw it deserves more than 5 stars)

A solid 3.5 star rounded up to 4.
Audio book.

I really enjoyed this book and found it really easy to read. I felt like we also got to see a glimpse of the author’s personality, as this book seems partially autobiographical, and she seems to be genuine and kind.

Although this book is centered around Maddie dealing with the loss of her father after being his caregiver for many years while also dealing with her problematic family members, it still manages to be funny and relatable. I think many women who have been through early adulthood can relate. This book had me reminiscing on the naïveté of my early 20s as well all the changes that came with that time period such as leaving home, living with roommates, making friends, finding new jobs, dating, depression, therapy, and the journey of finding oneself (which never ends). This book also made me grateful that I’m no longer in that phase of my life!!

Enjoyable and fun read - highly recommend!

I really liked this book! You've read every theme before - coming of age, parental expectations and failings, dating/love, professional hardships, loss, otherization and finding out who you are but this is a fresh, funny and heartwarming taken on these themes

This book was a challenge for me at first. I chose to listen to it based on an instagram book account that said it was a good book to listen to. And the reader had a great voice for this. I enjoyed learning about this Ghanan who grew up in London and her story of her life. But as the book came to an end, I saw the wonder of this book. We get to see how Maame's identity was lost in her devotion to family and then her discovery of herself. I was very happy that I took the time to listen to this book and while there is some language and spice that I was not quite prepared for, I would recommend this book.
