This collection offers a glimpse into the lived experiences of Bengali immigrants in the US while also covering a wide variety of other themes.

I found the stories consistantly interesting, reflective, and at times moving. There's also a certain straightforwardness to the author's writing style that I like.

some of the stories i didn’t care all too much for but some of them i loved and they made me a bit emotional! those were sexy, mrs sen’s and the third and final continent (this last one especially got me).

i think lahiri is really great at 1. roasting white people by writing about how she thinks they see brown people and 2. writing about unexpected connections between people, and how important they are

so so lovely <3 there is so much life and beauty in these stories. Jhumpa is a gifted writer and makes you feel for her characters in just a few pages. my favorites were “A Temporary Matter,” “Interpreter of Maladies,” and “The Third and Final Continent” but I enjoyed them all.

Loved this book. A short but reflective read that allows us to take a glimpse at the mundane yet poignant life of other people.
