A unique retelling blending swan lake and the seven swans together. Masterfully written.

Final Thoughts
I’ll be honest, this book wasn’t as good to me as the beginning of the series. Maybe I just need a break from the series, or I just didn’t connect with Addie, I’m not sure. Gabe didn’t seem all that impressive to me as a love interest, and most of the characters seemed so underdeveloped. There was also a lot of “telling” not “showing” from Addie’s supposed character development (she announces one thing and later announces a different thing), to the dark doings of Leander. I think there’s just a lot of missed potential here for the story to be more creative, or more interesting, and really changing Odette to Addie wasn’t a mark of true creativity.

I had never read a Swan Lake retelling before, and I really loved this one. Princess Adelaide has been hiding out in the same forest town for years, ever her parents died and her brother was cursed for his pride. But she herself has fallen under a curse that she has no way to break and her old childhood friend Prince Gabriel appears, forcing her to face her past.
Pros:
Addie/Lady: I really enjoyed her as a character and the way she cared for her friends. I liked how the book acknowledged the trauma that would come with a cruel father and losing her mother, and made it part of her character. And the fact that she didn't want to go back to her old life made sense and seemed reasonable.
The haven: All of the characters at the haven were great, and the small town setting was a really change of pace from some of the other books in the series.
Gabe: I’ve been excited to see Gabe again since he first popped in book 1, and the book really did his fun, adventurous personality justice.
The swans: The swans were great characters in their own right. I thought the way that the author portrayed her affection and connection to her swans was sweet and quite believable.
Cons:
-Leander: I don’t know why he wasn’t the best villain. He had motivation and was a definite threat, but that wasn't very apparent until the final confrontation. I think the story just lacked a time-sensitive stakes for a lot of the book, at least up until the very final bit.
Overall, it’s a beautiful read with a wonderful setting and fun but sweet characters. Definitely worth a read just for the fact that it’s a Swan Lake retelling! 5/5!

This is a good coming-of-age book. Adelaide goes through some real character growth. Plus, there are cute swans!

The "bad guy" was a little bit cliché. I was hoping for a little more depth considering he was an evil scientist working with magical objects.

He just pulled off her hood and nobody stopped him?

This was my least favorite of this series so far. While there were parts I liked, I never really connected with the main character. Also, the love story wasn't very believable. I do really like the audio narrator, however.
