This was such a sweet historical romance. I really loved reading how Maxwell Dean and Diana Boyle deepen their relationship. The premise of a directory of marriageable rich widows and spinsters, tailored for the poorer second sons was creative and not something I'd read before. It was really fun to see how each different woman in the directory responded to finding out that they were in this pamphlet. It was also pretty sweet how it led to a love story for several involved.

Overall, this was delightful romance and a really fun time. I hope to read more from this author in the future.

A fun and light read. Though after the 75% mark dragged, especially for such a short book. And then the last two chapters seemed to move too quickly.

Diana Boyle is a wealthy young widow with no plans to remarry. She lives a quiet life on the outskirts of London and intends to stay that way. Until an unexpected visit from two young men leads her to discover that someone has published a booklet with the name and worth of every single, rich woman so that impoverished younger sons can know who to target.
Maxwell Dean is not only one of those younger sons, he's also the one who published the booklet after falling in love with a lady who married his older brother (and his title and money). He wanted to protect his friends from the heartache of being looked over for the men with fortunes. He thought he was doing a service, after all, women marry for money all the time. But Diana is not shy in telling him that all he's done is put targets on the women's backs.
But Diana's decision to let the women named in the booklet know about it ends up making her great new friends and launching her into the London season, complete with a remorseful Mr. Dean intent on showing her that he's not the cad his actions might have made him out to be.

Loved the idea and the execution. It's sweet and funny and kept me glued to pages. I liked how original it felt to put the power in women's hands to decide if they wanted to be courted or not. The fact that it also has some twists that have lovely resolutions only made it better.

A fun regency rom com about women taking matters into their own hands. I love the fact that when a man publishes something that has negative effects on them, these women fight back and use it to their advantage. Instead of being forced to parade around and hope that a man takes interest, the ladies use the directory to force men to parade around and do what they want. Not only is this a story of sticking up for yourself, but it is also a story of female friendship. The romance was also very sweet.

When I first started reading romance, I started with historical romance. Other than Julie Garwood and Judith Mc Naught, I really don't remember any of the other authors I read, but I remember a sea of helpless females and misogynistic heroes in England, Scotland, etc. This book, I would have remembered. I love it when a woman is empowered, confident, and, to borrow a phrase, rewrites the rules.
