Even though this was a very short book, it felt like there wasn't enough content to comfortably fill it. If the premise was taken out, it didn't feel like the book would change very much as the ladies didn't rewrite the rules in any real fashion. It felt as though there were no real stakes. There are also a decent amount of contradictions or dropped storylines in worldbuilding/characters such as the main love interests spending time alone is said to be okay since one is a widow, but then 3/4 through the book it's scandalous. It seemed to be set up for enemies-to-lovers but then became love at first sight. There is also a chapter where the two female friends are said to be shunned from society but then everything is back to normal one chapter later due to an engagement which didn't actually resolve the reason for shunning. This book wouldn't pass the Bechdel test.

Delightful and fast read - I found the characters very engaging and it was fun to see how the different ladies took advantage of re-writing the rules throughout the course of the story.

I chose this book because I loved the narrator in other books, and while that doesn't often work out for me, I'm so glad it did this time. I was almost immediately swept up in this story and only loved it more as more characters were introduced. It was just so sweet and satisfying throughout and I would have finished it in one sitting if I hadn't needed to go to sleep.
