If books are food. Food for thoughts, soul, emotion, etc... I consider this book a palate cleanser.
Diana Boyle is a young widow. After two uninvited gentlemen visit her at her house, she finds her name in a list of single wealthy women. Diana grew up poor, but she inherited her wealth from her estranged late husband. Enraged by the list, Diana gathered the ladies from the registry and made it known the existence of the list. A lady named Regina then suggested flipping the norms and rules of society, starting with holding a dance ball for the ladies of the registry and inviting the fortune hunters.
Maxwell Dean, the author of the registry, has a pure intention of helping other men who were not an heir to their family fortune like him find a partner that they can marry. These men are the fortune hunters.
What happened when the ladies of the registry fell in love with fortune hunters? Could the ladies trust the men's love? Or is their wealth the one the men love?
******************
This is a light, fast-paced novel that is enjoyable to read. I don't watch Bridgeton, but I imagined this story set in a similar setting, with proper gentlemen and elegant ladies.
I love the friendship between the ladies and the romance that blooms between the men and the ladies.
As I mentioned, this story is just a palate cleanser that I read just to clear my mind. However, it is nice to read about ladies elegantly taking control of their lives.

Fortune hunters become the hunter in this regency era romantic comedy….
The Ladies Rewrite the Rules by Suzanne Allain is a fun fictional trust that mixes societal norms with a real world anecdote and adds plenty of humor and inuendo…
Diana Boyle is a young widow who finds herself called upon by suitors she doesn’t know (ow WANT). It turns out some “young son” made it his duty to draft a pamphlet of all the eligible (and RICH) ladies of English society and distribute them to bachelors “looking for a wife of means”.
It’s really frustrating that the author is so handsome and flustered when he’s around her.
What follows is a navigation of London society, gender warfare, and FANCY BALLS as various women from the director decide to sieze their own power in the situation…knowing that their position makes them the more powerful party in any courtship.
They have a giant ball where all the directory women are invited…as well as various eligible men.
As Diana navigates her own feelings for the young author, she makes fast friend with other women from the guide, and she learns a great deal about London society in the process.
Will she or any of her friends find love, or will there be horribly rich spinsters? Just kidding….its all a happy ending as this is a wonderfully positive story.
My only critique…nothing above kissing actually happens (page 167 fyi, and it’s a good kiss), and I’ve never wanted more for there to be some actual sex in a fun romance novel.
