A beautiful, emotional, roller-coaster ride of a story, with a mystery through the middle.

Unfortunately it got a little long winded for me and I felt the whole court drama could have been left out. I'm definitely interested in more from this author though.

I had a really hard time deciding if I liked this book or not. It made me sad in an empty kind of way. I guess you could say it is very real - it talks about people that have intense problems and the effects that these problems have on their loved ones. Honestly some parts of it made me sick to my stomach. I think that it proved many of the characters to be very selfish, but all in all it was well written and thought provoking, I found it frustrating that I knew more about each character than they did about each other, but I guess that is how life works in the real world.

Jodi was able to talk about really difficult topics with grace and without causing discomfort. The plot was a little too 'lifetime movie'-esque for my usual taste but still a good book. Wish we got more of an ending.

This is my third book from Picoult, as I finally got around to reading the title @the_female_demian loaned me. This one smacked me emotionally, as any of us could have ended up in this position as a teenager. As Christopher Harte struggles after the death of Emily Gold, he finds himself being publicly blamed for her death. The Golds are grieving, and Chris is finding himself in the middle of an investigation that has to determine whether Emily’s death is murder or suicide. Like My Sister’s Keeper and 19 Minutes, The Pact is a crime drama that follows the characters from the initial event until just after the results of the trial. Each character’s response to Emily’s death is so authentic it hurts. It’s impossible to imagine what we would do in any of their positions, and yet they each hold an echo of our reactions. The Pact will break your heart and play on parents’ deepest fear in Picoult’s distinct style.
