I kind of wish I had listened to the audiobook for this one instead of reading it! That being said, I did enjoy this, and am looking forward to watching Men in Kilts. Maybe I should rewatch Outlander while I’m at it!

This was a delightfully weird mix of memoir and Scottish history, and I learned a lot about Scotland, and the making of Outlander. I love that Sam and Graham are besties, and had this experience together, on Outlander, and through this book/additional show.

One of the irritating things about this book though was every time Sam would rib Graham about his love of lattes, good wine, and desire for comfort. It got a little old after a while, and had me rolling my eyes. PIZZA ROLLS, NOT GENDER ROLES, it’s 2021 for godssake. Just because you love lattes and nice things doesn’t make you less of a man, or make you a “princess” or whatever the nickname was. I totally get it was just a friendly joke, but definitely got old after a while and irrationally annoyed me.

I don’t really care for whisky, but someone pour me a glass!

Listened to this before, Sam and Graham are funny together

Didn't hold my attention

I haven't watched or read Outlander so I couldn't appreciate all the behind the scenes/making of references. But it was a hilarious look at Scotland's history and the making of Men in Kilts.
Audiobook was narrated by the actors and was fantastic.

What an amazing story. Have read the Outlanders books. Watched the shows of Outlander and Men in Kilts. Very knowledgable about English history and learning about Scottish history. This book was great to listen to, especially with Sam and Graham narrating themselves. Their accents to an American are so amazing to listen to - I am forever grateful to the Smith family to encourage me to “cheat” and listen to this book!

Did I mostly borrow the audiobook version from the library to listen to two Scottish accents? Maybe. Did I end up thoroughly enjoying their adventure, banter, behind the scenes accounts, and telling of Scottish clanland history? Verra much.

This is a pretty history heavy book. I listened to the audio which was narrated by Huegan and McTavish - which, if your an Outlander fan, is truly a delight! It made me want to hop on a plane to Scotland ASAP.

A companion book to the authors’ travel series, Men in Kilts, Graham and Sam take you on a journey across Scotland, highlighting its history, culture, cuisine, agriculture, craftsmanship, and clans. It’s also a venue to hawk the authors’ other interests like whiskey, tartan and their respective films and TV series.

It was definitely entertaining, and these 2 definitely have an addictive banter and made me laugh throughout the narrative, but unless you’re Outlander fans or followers, I’m not sure how widespread their audience is because much of the dialogue is Outlander-centric.

But I enjoyed it and they’ve sold me on adding travel to Scotland to my post-pandemic travel bucket list.
adventurous informative lighthearted medium-paced

I enjoyed learning about more Scottish history through their travels.
