I enjoyed it very much
I expected darker, it wasn’t. Just hints of kink and hints of dark.
Perfect for someone who wants something on the edge of dark
Very grey in my opinion. But great story and characters!
I liked it a lot!!

I finished this purely for the sake of my Goodreads Challenge. **important note at the end**

Arghhhh where do I begin!?

This book!!!!

Garrett was so annoying. His personality was so moody, and off. And maybe he was supposed to seem like a dark and tortured hunk with a fun side, but he came off as a creepy self-obsessed perv.

And then on top of that, stupid Elise!! I cannot telling you how much her fickle, hypocritical annoying self pissed me off! She called Garrett a creepy stranger and painted him as some nasty sketchy sleeve, and then talks about “hot slivers down her spine.”

TALK ABOUT A 180!

The relationship, no wait... “relationship” was so rushed and forced. Garrett jumped to sleep with the stranger in his house after less than a week of her staying. And Elise was overly trusting of someone who liked “consensual raping.”

Which brings me to my next point:

NON-CONSENSUAL CONSENSUAL

No. No. No. I get the concept. It’s like BDSM with a focus on role-play, specifically captor-captive scenarios. It’s role play. Or rough sex. Or whatever. Anything, BUT IT IS NOT RAPE.

I HATE THIS RIDICULOUS IDEA OF EROTICA WRITERS USING RAPE AS SOME SEXY THING SO LONG AS IT IS CONSENSUAL.

Bitch, rape is only cape CAUSE it’s not consented!

REPEAT AFTER ME:

RAPE IS NOT CONSENSUAL

RAPE IS NOT CONSENSUAL

RAPE IS NOT CONSENSUAL

Okay?

By calling kinky consensual sex “rape,” do authors understand that they totally take away from the fucking issue? They trivialize it. We have male leads saying “oh I never take a woman by force.” And then on page three they say, “I’m gunna rape you,” (literally. In this book and a few I have read).

And you know what that does?

It basically says that that male lead has an innate desire to rape women, but he feels shamed by society for doing it but he still wants to, so he does it through consented sex. Raping should never ever ever ever ever ever be some kinky fetish that we should choose to or not to indulge.

It is like murder. It’s criminal.

No one says “baby I’m going chainsaw your head off your fucking body, watch the blood drain from your veins, and then throw the remains in a food processor. So hot.” And if they do, we call them psychopaths. Criminals.

Same concept.

Okay, that was my TED talk for the day. Hope you are edumacated pupils now.

Am I supposed to believe that a grown ass man can't tell the difference between flour and sugar? No thank you

A murder mystery and a sexy romance are a great combination. The narrative flows reasonably well, and the romance between Garrett and Elise is steamy and believable. The BDSM sex gets a little rough for my taste, but works within the story. A little more difficult to believe was Elise's occasional TSTL moments (the woman is on her way to a PhD) including suddenly believing the worst about Garrett at the 80% mark. In the shock of the moment? Maybe. A day later when she has time to consider the facts? Uh no. So that kind of killed the momentum at the end.

Note: The kindle e-book stops at the 54% mark. It's a complete book, but Ms. Aaron has included [b:Counsellor|26838277|Counsellor (Acquisition, #1)|Celia Aaron|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1443585671s/26838277.jpg|46872279] as a bonus.

Damn that was hot! I loved the intrigue too.
Really enjoyed it.
I guess the only thing would be that it was a wee bit slow at some moments during the first half of the book. And also his brother was yuck.
And the constant waking up at the hospital felt a bit repetitive.
But I really enjoyed it :)
And I loved the bonus epilogue!

Celia Aaron strikes again!

Blackwood is suspenseful, intriguing, and all sorts of depraved deliciousness.

Whether you are wary or not, Blackwood will pull you into its secrets, charm you with its lies, and blind you with unrepentant lust!

You will learn to play the game. You will probably beg for it. But you will pay for it too!

Okay, I kept this private from my goodreads because I was embarrassed as to how I’d feel about it. (I’ve got some previous Christian coworkers as friends, so I try to be mindful about not making them too uncomfy) this was WONDERFUL for a thriller mystery! It has plenty of spice while keeping me wondering.

Very dark, erotic and interesting. I really enjoyed this book it’s different than others that I have read and I can see how it’s not for everyone.

Ahhh! I loved this book. Loved the refreshingly unique plot and setting, the mysterious hero, and the fiercely determined heroine. The romance never feels routine, knowing exactly when to heat up, when to come, and when to sigh with satisfaction. This is an edge-of-your-seat erotic thriller, rife with vivid imagery and buoyed by top-notch writing. I highly recommend.
